Workout Styles That Don’t Suck
There is a general misconception that in order to maintain a healthy body weight you need to spend hours upon hours in the gym. This is not true! You can maintain a healthy lifestyle by utilizing short and effective workouts that can be performed in the comfort of your own home. Today I am going to talk about two of my all-time favorite workout styles and why they are so effective at managing and maintaining weight. I will also show you how you can implement these styles in your workout routine.
H.I.I.T Style
H.I.I.T. stands for high-intensity interval training and is a form of interval training that alternates between short periods of intense effort followed by a less intense recovery period. The typical length of an H.I.I.T workout can be anywhere between 15-20 minutes.
- Decrease body fat
- Improve heart health and blood pressure
- Help with building lean muscle and boosting performance
- Quick and efficient
- Doesn’t require a lot of supplies
- Travel-friendly and portable
You can get an awesome workout in a short period of time while focusing on all major muscle areas. You will walk away from your workout feeling challenged, have preserved lean muscle mass and reap some major health benefits.
Circuit Style
Hands down my favorite type of workout. Circuit style workouts typically involve a workout that consists of four to six exercises grouped together to form a circuit. These exercises are performed in sequential order for a particular number of repetitions for a set number of rounds. Circuits can be endurance focused or resistance focused, or they can be a combination of these two areas of focus.
- Build muscle
- Increase muscular endurance
- Improves metabolic efficiency (helps the body to burn fat effectively)
- Quick, efficient and fast
- Doesn’t require a lot of supplies
- Travel-friendly and portable
I love circuit training because I can easily combine resistance training and endurance training into one exercise routine and create a full body workout. This can not only reduce the amount of time that you spend working out but it can also help to maximize the time you spend working out. Circuit workouts allow you to be super creative and prevent boredom and plateaus. You can do circuit style workouts anywhere, from the gym, to at home or a local park anywhere there is space you can perform a circuit style workout and need little to no equipment.
